Small Space Age

Each planet is replaced by a hyperbolic projection of limited size. Requires the Infinite Resources dependency to be playable.

Is there a technical reason that this mod depends on Space-Age-Without-Platforms? I'm interested in the challenge of optimizing tiny planets, but still want to make awesome spaceships.

The dependency automatically downloads with the mod because the Small Space Age concept includes making it a lighter experience.

However, to meet your request, I've added the setting 'Disable Mod' to No Space Platforms that you can toggle on.

I think it would have been easier to just mark the dependency as optional, but this solution also works. Thanks for the quick resolution.

If it were optional it wouldn’t be downloaded by default.

Ideally, there might be one space platform above all the planets.

If it were optional it wouldn’t be downloaded by default.

And people who want it can add it. It would be great to have an experience more like SE was before 2.0. Finite planet sizes, but still with all of the space travel stuff. Similarly, ores should not be made infinite, if players want infinite ores they can add Infinite Resources or Deep Core Mining (more like SE).

You turn off so many people by adding stuff outside of the core intent of the mod: finite sized planets.

It’s an interesting point you raise, whether the mod should be itself unplayable in order to be cleaner. I’m not against it on principle.

I might split off a subsidiary mod from Small Space Age with only the terrain changes and a few different projections to choose from.

It is fair for you to tell players "you need either X or Y for this mod to fully work as expected otherwise you will run out of resources". I think that is probably expected from a finite sized planets mod. You could also make a single mod for the finite planets and then a modpack for Small Space Age that just combines that mods in the way you intended/designed them to, but single purposed mods that people can adapt to many purposes is always going to be preferred since it will get more exposure and interest from people who do not want the same thing as you.

I've switched the non-terrain features of this mod to be optional by default.

That is awesome, thanks! I think the only other two things that would be needed is a setting to disable the mod for specific planets. The other finite sized planet mod had something saying it conflicted with Maraxis. I have not played that planet yet, do I not know if that is easy to solve for, but it is probably still good to let players disable on a per planet basis. Maybe they want to have their home/starting planet be infinite size for a megabase? Or just for some other reason.

EDIT: Moved my comments to another thread since this one is "solved"

This one isn't quite solved, due to this problem raised with resource mining speed: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Small-Space-Age/discussion/683334cc53f0c2d12dae39d9
